"When I create, I paint the picture of the story in my head and then I just record what I see" - J. Braye
Not At All (Groomsmen's Story)
Not At All is the first song from the EP Groomsman's Story. We are working animated music videos that will play like a movie when watched in it's entirety. I'm very excited about this project, I got help from a good friend and comedian Ivan Martin and his crew. With artistic direction from the art guru, Dat Artist, I believe this animation will be a classic.
In The Air (Groomsmen's Story)
In the Air is a song off the up and coming animation project called "Groomsmen's Story". I love this song because it is based off a true story and is actually the first song I created from the project. At my wedding (in real life) it was so much love in the air. My brother (the groomsmen) ended up hooking up with a bridesmaid. This song was just capturing the feeling and energy that my brother had. We have always been so close growing up so I pick up his vibe and energy as if it was my own, so he felt it, and I made a song about it. You wanna here it, here it go...
Falling For Ya (Groomsmen's Story)
This is a special record to me because it was a production collab with my closest cousin. I had a track foundation and he went in on it. Once the track was finished, I rode around in the car, creating the song in my head. I also listened to the beat in the shower. I think that's when I finished the concept and structure.
Contact (Groomsmen's Story)
I literally created this whole song out of thin air in one hour. I was going through the computer and I saw a file that Los made. I played it and started muting sounds then was like YO this is dope. So I bounced it out and recorded to it. I let him her the beat and he was like "I did this!?" He didn't even remember the track! So then I let him here the song. He was going crazy. I do feel like this is one of my favorite songs tho. It goes toward the end the of animation story.
Til She Go To Sleep (Groomsmen's Story)
This is a record produced by Kino, with a dope track the scene is set and all I have to do is go record. This song has good memories for me because first of all I like it but secondly, Kino would be in a major label board room or studio banging this one and I would randomly get a video text like Yo, J, I'm telling you!...lol
FuxWitMe by Jay-Z off the MCHG album. I liked the track so I wanted to cut it up and create to it. I was going thru a phase of wanting to remix and put my spin on songs.
Young Nigga Remix
We took a trip to Atlanta before this song really broke out and I had to put my spin on it. Young Nigga by Que
I Wanna Be With You Remix
My cousin Dex put me on to this song and challenged me to create a remix so I did.
Somewhere In America Remix
Somewhere In America by Jay-Z from the MCHG album. I chopped this up and made a song. They still play this on the radio from time to time. Someone will always send me a text or something when they hear it.
Songs From The Archives
Can't Hate On That
I wrote this song just talking about my state VA. They say it's for lovers but it's no support for creative artist here. I was inspired to create this after attempts to start a #NewVA campaign to change the vibe of our music scene. It's a difficult task to do because it's human nature to be jealous and envious of someone else so I just do me now a days and help when I can.
Lay It Down
Had a vibe session in the studio with some musicians and got a chance to work with a dope guitarist by the name of Monty. Haven't worked with him since but he laid down the dope guitar riffs on this song.
I actually did this song at my house instead of the studio. This was around the time I was shopping songs. I like this song's b section, the rythmns to it. Being that it was done at my house, I have a clip of my son talking in the background of the bridge. Sound like he said yea right. Not purposely but I enjoy having this audio time capsule of him.
Put You On The Dresser
Man... Put You On The Dresser was a local hit!...lol So, it had 50k views on youtube and 12 pages of positive comments but I snatched it off line when I had an a&r at EMI Publishing that wanted to place it on Chris Brown and Tyga's first album. I wish it could have stayed online because they didn't use it for the album.
I made this song after my brother brought Ron Browz to Blakelys for a show. I guess the energy from a packed party inspired a club song.
I Love Yall (read description before playing)
So, this song is NOT based on a true story for me even tho it may be for others. I got into character mode and created story based upon it. The topic is about an interracial relationship and the cultural issues that come with it. I don't appose interracial relationships, love is love and we are all red on the inside. Your spirit has no skin color. But anyways, I made the song making light of the subject, maybe I will do a cartoon video to this one...
